History of York, Pennsylvania

Located in the heart of Pennsylvania, York is a city with a rich history dating back to the 18th century. Established in 1741 by settlers from the Province of Maryland, York was originally known as "Yorktown" in honor of the city in England. The area was an important center of trade and commerce due to its proximity to major waterways and fertile land.
